Woodland Melody

Nature Based Preschool

Untitled

Woodland Melody Nature Based Preschool is a preschool program for 2 to 6 year old's that takes place about 80% outdoors. Whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring down children are engaged in outdoor hands on learning. In nature based preschool children are able to nurture their bodies and minds. They develop strong gross and fine motor skills as they navigate unknown terrain. They learn about life cycles in nature and seasons. Children experience the changing shapes and colors of natural landscapes and build strong senses of scientific inquiry, language, and mathematics. This setting also allows children to come in to a sense of independence and confidence as well as foster phenomenal social skills and early team building.

When you move play outdoors you can greatly expand creativity and eliminate big NO’s. In the forest you can climb, build, make a mess and experiment with out worry. Behaviors are often eliminated, and “High Energy” kids get to just be kids.

"A child can not bounce off the wall if there is no wall."

What happens at Woodland Melody?

We make “food” and flower arrangements in the mud kitchen. We hike through the woodland portion of our property and learn about native flora and fauna. We explore life cycles and weather systems. We learn how to dress for success. We run, climb, jump and roll. We work as a team to build new spaces for our enjoyment and entertainment. We garden and learn about where our food comes from. We learn about decomposition. We learn to listen to our bodies about when it is time to move and when it is time to rest. We learn to love our planet. We also do everything you would in a typical preschool but without the walls. All the learning is hands on and evolves with each child’s interests.

About Us: About Us

Our Mission

Reconnecting with nature

The majority of preschool through school aged children are losing out on experiencing first hand the outdoor world around them. So much so that in 2008 the term "nature deficit disorder" came into being. Studies have shown that most children are spending only minutes outside a day. We aim to help children experience nature to its fullest. To reconnect with and appreciate our planet.
